Getting Started with Container Gardening

?Getting Started with Container Gardening

Gardening can be a fun and rewarding hobby, however, not everyone can start this hobby due to space constraints. A lot of people live on apartments with no yards and this make it almost impossible for them to start a garden. Notice the word almost though. Even if you do not have a yard of your own, you can still enjoy the hobby of gardening. The solution to this is Container Gardening. You can use pots, tin cans or even pails and hang them on your windows, arrange them on your living room or patio. With just a few plants, your home will look a lot more beautiful.

One benefit of having plants on a container is that you will be able to move them around as you please. Should you decide to rearrange the living room, there will be no problem with the plants. If the lighting is basically the same, the “relocation” should not be a problem for the plant.

In doing container gardening, one of the main purposes is to beautify your place. One option for you is to do a vertical gardening. With this style, you will be able to maximize whatever space you have. You will have to hang the plants, and you can use several layers so different plants could be used. If you do not want your plants hanging for fear that they may fall off, you can also create a small wooden or metal stepladder. You can just arrange the plants there and the effect would be very nice.

With regards to the watering of your container plants, you may have to exert some effort for it. You will have to go around and water the plants individually. Be sure to water the plants regularly, but be careful not to over-water them because that is as fatal to them as under-watering. Plastic containers require less watering because the plastic tends to retain the water. If you are using clay pots, you can line them with plastic to lessen the frequency of watering.

Aside from the material, there is also one more thing to consider when buying your containers. You have to think of the size as well. Different plants require different container sizes. If you put a big0growing plant to a small container, it might constrict its growth, and if you put a small plant on a big plant it might look dwarfed. Plan ahead so you will have a beautiful set of plants.

So, should you find container gardening appealing to you, go ahead and start planning for one. You can ask a plan store for their help and suggestion regarding what you want and together, you will be able to make a beautiful garden even without a yard.
